With travel to and from the Island extremely limited, residents are interested in taking a ‘staycation’ over coming months.
BERMUDA: With residents largely unable to leave the Island for leisure and, conversely, tourists generally unable to visit the Island and populate hotels, resorts, and activities, there is a newfound opportunity to partake in tourist activities on the Island. As part of a recent survey conducted by TRA/Narrative Research, one-third of residents indicate they are likely to stay at a local hotel or resort in the coming three to six months while one-half are likely to participate in local activities like renting jet skis or visiting an attraction like Crystal Caves.
During this pandemic, it has also been hard on many local shops and restaurants that rely on in-person business. It is positive to note, however, that in the coming weeks a small majority of residents intend to support these local businesses by eating at their favourite restaurants and shopping in-person for non-essential items. This shift will hopefully bring some normalcy back to the Island and provide a start to recovering the local economy.
These results are part of a TRA Bermuda Omnibus® survey conducted in June 2020 with a random sample of adult Bermuda residents (18 years of age or older). The results above are not commissioned by a third party, and were collected independently by TRA/Narrative Research. A sample size of 400 is a well-recognized market research industry standard and provides a representative sampling of Islanders. The survey was conducted by phone and online from June 3 – 15, 2020. A sample size of 400 surveys collected by telephone allows for a statistical margin of error to within ± 4.9 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times. 509 surveys were completed online by members of TRA/Narrative Research’s proprietary online panel of adult residents. A margin of error cannot be ascribed to the online survey results.
