Press Release: CARICOM

MEDIA RELEASE: November 2025

One-half of residents support full CARICOM membership for Bermuda.

BERMUDA: Since 2003, Bermuda has been an associate member of CARICOM – the Caribbean Community comprised of 21 countries, including fifteen Member States and six Associate Members. Since 2024, the Bermuda Government has been considering moving forward with full CARICOM membership. Following recent meetings, discussions, editorials and publications about CARICOM, we asked residents to what extent they support or oppose full CARICOM membership for Bermuda.

Overall, one-half of residents offer support for Bermuda’s full membership in CARICOM, with nearly two in ten who completely support (17%). On the other hand, one-third oppose, to some extent. Interestingly, those who oppose are equally likely to indicate they somewhat or completely oppose. Another similar proportion are unsure of their opinion, possibly signaling the need for further information. Across demographics, black residents are more likely to support the full membership, while white residents are more likely to oppose. Across age groups, opposition increases with age.

Those in support of full CARICOM membership (n=222) often mention the benefits for Bermuda or a sense of enhanced unity. Alternatively, the lack of clarity on the benefits or a lack of information are cited as reasons for opposition (n=134).

These results are part of Narrative Research Bermuda’s Bermuda Omnibus® Survey conducted with a random sample of 400 adult residents of Bermuda. The results above are not commissioned by a third party, and were collected independently by Narrative Research Bermuda. A sample size of 400 is a well-recognised market research industry standard and provides a representative sampling of Islanders. The survey was conducted by phone between September 3rd and 23rd, 2025. A sample size of 400 surveys collected by telephone allows for a statistical margin of error to within ± 4.9 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
